And so it happens...

By: freezer geezer

Recently, I was able to hold an interview with our very own hardworking administrator regarding the future Pokedox game. We discussed the general gameplay and his vision, so without further adieu???

First off, when a member registers, what will they do next (specifically with character selection, starter Pokemon and so on)?

Naturally they'd want to start playing. When logged in you have the option of doing whatever you like, you're not specifically restricted to play the game. However, when starting the game you will begin with character selection. The choice of Pokemon comes later as the story progresses, similar to how the console games operate.

Will the Pokedox story somehow be incorporated with the game and if so, how?

Absolutely. Everything from legendary Pokemon and characters to actual events will reflect from the actual story.

How will a member battle, catch, release, or trade Pokemon? Can Pokemon be purchased and/or put up for sale?

Battling can be done against other players or just trainers through the story, and of course through wild Pokemon battles. Catching is as you'd expect, where Pokeballs are used to finish off a battle with a wild Pokemon. A quick menu will be available for releasing and other such options, and trading will be done in the Pokemon Centres of every town.

As for the purchasing/selling part, I like the idea, but haven't quite taken it into consideration. I'll get back to you on it.

What will battling other members be like? Will there be computer controlled members and gym leaders?

Battling will be much more involved than what most are used to from past online games. There won't be wait times for using attacks, so everything take place right in front of you. Gym leaders will be found in the major cities, maybe or maybe not with some twists...

Will a member be able to change a Pokemon???s attack whenever they want, or will it have to learn new attacks with experience?

If the attack is in their inventory, they can do it whenever they want, but Pokemon will also learn from leveling up.

Will the new "special" Pokemon (ex. shinies) be very rare, or quite common, on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being as common as normal Pokemon, 10 being as common as some legendaries).

10

How can one obtain legendaries? Will they be random or also incorporated in the storyline like the Nintendo Pokemon series?

All of the above. Also, some special ones might be obtainable through special events.

What kind of items will be in the game, and is there other ways of obtaining them as opposed to buying them?

Certain battles will lead to items rewarded. Bet battles will be implemented, where two trainers of equal skill level can bet their items or Pokemon. Whoever wins the battle gets the item or Pokemon that the other trainer put up. Items can also be purchased and found throughout the game.

Will there be in-game activities like fishing, Casino gambling, and the possible addition of a safari-zone? Will there be special events in the game, like bug-catching competitions? Remember, you don???t have to give away specifics if you do not want to.

I wasn't going to be too specific with this one. Everything you listed will be implemented, and a lot more.

Will there be any clans/teams and such allowed?

Yes, it will be implemented to be fair and much more sportsmanlike than they have been in the past.

Will trainer points be calculated and if so, how? Will there be a "Top Trainers" ranking and how will trainers be ranked?

There will be points and a top trainers list. There will be rankings for different categories, such as online battles won, highest ranked clans, best collections. The over all top trainers list will take a lot more into consideration and judge a lot more fairly. Since experience isn't going to be as bloated as what users are familiar with, it will likely seem more fair and balanced.

Are you planning on releasing a "beta version" for members to assist you in finding glitches and such?

No, beta testing will be done internally with a select few. A great portion of it will be done alone, though.

Do you have a projected release date for the final version of the game?

I like to keep these things to myself. Although I could surprise people by releasing it earlier, I could also upset people by releasing it later.

Okay now this one's a little tough so take your time:

If a tree falls in the middle of the woods, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Explain.

Chuck Norris would hear it, he hears everything. So yes, it makes a sound.

Any last words of wisdom for the members of Pokedox?

Thanks for waiting. I won't sugar-coat anything by saying what I've already said about the game getting done. I've learned lots over the past year. Not related to programming, but more what to do with my time and what not to do with it. Guitar Hero is still on my list of things I need to do, however. Cheers.

Jingara's Official Release

By: Ryan Granahan

Jingara for the IE6 users, Shiny Jingara for IE6 users.

Well guys, here you have it. Jingara in regular and shiny form. Much thanks to Esepibe for the revamping of Jingara, you did an excellent job man. Also to Albert and nya_chan for making a sprited version. The biggest thanks, however, must go to Biophantom for creating Jingara's base design, without which we wouldn't even have a Jingara. Expect more updates soon guys, I have the nav bar working in everything except IE6. Bye for now.

Upcoming News

By: Ryan Granahan

I know there hasn't been a news update in a long while, but I haven't been sitting on my rear end doing nothing. I've been working on a really cool navigation bar, so that will be arriving along with the updated layout in approximately a week. Along with this are two things the members have been dying to see. Everybody wants to see chapter 2 of the Pokedox story, and probably want to see that mysterious Pokemon at the top of the story's page even more.

I'll have you all know that these two updates will be coming very shortly, a bit more discussion must be done between those in charge, however.

As for the reason the navigation bar isn't coming out until next week? It's the last week of a ridiculous work load at school. I know it sounds like I'm just complaining about school, but the people that I normally talk to have seen how badly I have had it over the past couple weeks. I have been pretty much missing in action for all of them, and even then I was able to devote several hours to getting work done on the navigation.

All of that being said, some very promising updates are on their way, so stay tuned! That's all for now.

Ryan's Prologue

By: Ryan Granahan

As promised, the surprise is coming along and will be on schedule for release later today. I am, however not posting for this sole purpose, I am posting to once again apologize for the empty promise that was made.

Though this was not my task, I, as the leader of Pokedox, am responsible for all events taking place throughout the site. I've had many people approach me and tell me it's not my fault, and I appreciate these words greatly, but this is my site, and therefore I am responsible for everything that goes on inside it. I had no backup plan at the ready, and had no way of preparing the a worst case scenario. This has been a great learning experience for me, and although many of you may believe that it is entirely not my fault, I feel very responsible for it, and would like to offer my most sincere apologies to all of you. As stated before, future tasks will be thought out much more thoroughly, and I, as the owner of Pokedox, will ensure to never allow something like this to happen again.

All of that being said, the surprise will indeed be coming later today, so check back for updates. I'll be updating this news post, so keep your eyes peeled!

UPDATE: By golly, a half hour away from being late and I gotta get up at 6:00 tomorrow, but it's READY! I'm so excited about this, as there is a lot more in store than what you are about to see. Ladies and gents, I present to you the official Pokédox story! This isn't just a fanfic, this is the real deal. The game storyline will be based on the main events that you read about, and the characters are all official to Pokédox! We have some new and exciting ideas, twists and turns awaiting, so go ahead and dig in to the first chapter!

Now, I would like to give a very special thank you to a very special person, nya_chan, for stepping up and doing such a spectacular job on the first chapter. The characters and their Pokemon were already planned before hand, but she did a thoroughly outstanding job at stepping up and far exceeding my expectations for an introduction to a great story. A big thanks also goes to Biophantom, who came up with a lot of the great ideas you see and will continue to see in the Pokédox story. As I said, we have plenty of exciting things planned and on the way, so make sure you check back often! Make sure you give nya a BIG thanks for her work. Until next time, toodles!

A Sincere Apology on Behalf of the Pokedox Staff

By: Ryan Granahan

It fills me with utmost regret and disappointment that I have to announce what has likely become obvious to you, which is that the anticipated surprise has not come when it was supposed to.

The person in charge of this surprise, Harry, built a high level of anticipation over the past few weeks, and put the responsibility on himself to get a majority of this surprise completed. It seems that he has stopped coming online as of late, and has brought much embarrassment to all of the Pokedox staff, especially myself. I am now turning to a trusted friend and moderator of Pokedox, nya_chan, to be the leader of this important task. Though we were not able to deliver this wonderful surprise on time, you have my promise that it will be online and available to all by Sunday, April 13. That is in two days from the time of posting this, and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

On behalf of the staff of Pokedox, I give my most sincere apologies for the disappointment that many of you have experienced through this, and I can assure you that accurate deadlines will be set in the future for all upcoming projects and events.

Beta Layout

By: Ryan Granahan

I've had it for a while, but tweaks need to be continuously made for cross-browser compatibility. If you are using Internet Explorer 6 or lower, you cannot view the layout in its current state. If you are using Internet Explorer 7-8, Firefox, or pretty much any other common browser these days, you won't have a problem seeing it. Let me know what you think of the concept. It looks better on screens with a resolution above 1024x768 too, but only a bit better. =P

Click here to see what I've done so far. It's not an enormous difference, but I've been working on something else that'll be released on the 10th, along with what Harry has been talking about.

Just Around The Corner!

By: Harry

As the year passes I'm sure you're all asking yourselves when Pokédox is going to start getting some serious updates, yes? That's where I come into things. I'm here to deliver you some very important and breaking news in the Pokédox world.

On April 10th the biggest thing to hit the Pokédox world will be revealed. This is not the release date of the Pokédox game, no, but it is perhaps the next best thing. Heck, in my opinion it's even better than the Pokédox game! It is an update that will be the opening to a whole new world.

Countdown: 26 days.

Chatbox!

By: Jay Sanders

Hi, I'm Jay, or Snzl, as you may know me on the forums. Just dropping by to say "Hi!" and that I may post articles here, along with freezer geezer, Ryan, and Djoker (Harry). I also have to say, "Sanders" is not my real last name. I just chose it because it makes me seem English, which I'm not. I'm not like Ryan, who's proud to show his full name on the internet. :P

But anyways, I have one last thing to say before I close my introduction. I'd like to thank the awesome Dragonfree of The Cave of Dragonflies for the Sneasel Pixel-Over, and thank myself, if I can, for Goo Blasting it. I would also like to announce that our chatbox is up and running, with Yukinari, Jackuar, RaiBlade, Fury, and the almighty Ryanator as owners, and a handful of mods. Remember, you can always contact me on the forums, if I'm needed.
Sayonara,
Jay
